About Us

Belfast Martyrs RFB

Belfast Martyrs R.F.B is a combination of two different bands. One from the Colin Area (Twinbrook, Poleglass and Lagmore) and the other from Andersonstown.  The Twinbrook band was known as 'Lagan Valley Republican Flute Band' and the Andersonstown band was known as 'Slaibh Dubh Republican Flute Band.'

Lagan Valley R.F.B was established in the late 1980's, to commemorate all the Republican Volunteer's from the Lagan Valley area. The band was going strong for many years and won lots of competitions all over Ireland.

Slaibh Dubh R.F.B started up in 1990 in Andersonstown. The band was running for approximately 10 years before having to fold for various reasons. The band then began to reform in 2005.

Meanwhile Lagan Valley R.F.B were finding it difficult to keep the band going. This was until the two bands decided to join together and call the band '1st Battalion Martyrs Republican Flute Band.' Having one band in the First Battalion area benefited both bands, in terms of members, money and experience.

The band was called 1st Battalion Martyrs R.F.B up until June 2007 when we decided to change the name of the band to Belfast Martyrs Republican Flute Band; the reason for this was to remember every fallen comrade who has given their lives for Irelands' Freedom, from all over Belfast.

The band currently has approximately 30 members and is still growing. Our members range from 5 years old, right through to adults. Anyone who is genuinely interested in joining the band can do so; all you need to do is get in contact with us. (To find out how click here)

We would like to take this opportunity to say to everyone to remember:

"They Were Faithful and They Fought"
